Beatlemania was well and truly alive in Darlington on Monday, May 9th, 2016, as the touring West End musical “Let It Be” made its way to Darlington Civic Theatre.

Celebrating the music of the world’s most successful rock ‘n’ roll band, Let It Be plays out as a spectacular concert, charting the band’s meteoric rise from their humble beginnings in Liverpool’s Cavern Club, all the way through to their later studio masterpieces.

The two-hour show was jam-packed with over 40 of The Beatles’ greatest hits, including “Yesterday”, “Come Together”, “Love Me Do”, “I Want To Hold Your Hand” and “A Hard Day’s Night”, with the cast replicating the vocals and mannerisms to a tee.

Not only did Paul Canning (John Lennon), Ian B Garcia (Paul McCartney), Paul Mannion (George Harrison) and Stuart Wilkinson (Ringo Starr) sound like their counterparts, but they also looked the part with dazzling costumes and false moustaches.

To accommodate for the various costume changes, the focus switched to two Bakelite TV screens suspended from the top of the stage, broadcasting black and white advertisements and newsreel footage reminiscent of the day – a particularly nice touch to add to the feel of the era.

The onlookers at the Darlington Civic Theatre were more than willing to get involved where they could, singing along to every word, clapping along, stamping their feet and getting out of their seats to twist and shout down the aisles.

The tribute concluded with, not one, but two encores, as the na-na na nas of “Hey Jude” echoed around the venue in an epic finale. It was a night that everybody in attendance will never forget.

“Let It Be” is at Darlington Civic Theatre from Monday, May 9th, 2016 until Saturday, May 14th, 2016. Tickets are priced from £21.80 and can be purchased from the box office on 01325 486555 or from the Darlington Civic Theatre website.
